Union moves into Centre of Excellence Rugby

THE troubled Titans Centre of Excellence is on the brink of becoming the home of rugby excellence after Bond University yesterday announced a partnership with the Gold Coast Sevens tournament.

Bond will open its on-campus training facilities, as well as those at the recently acquired Centre of Excellence, to nations competing in the opening round of the IRB world series this weekend.

Brailsford, a former board member of the Queensland Reds, is said to be keen on strengthening the relationship the exclusive university has with rugby.

Bond University bought the Centre of Excellence premises off the Titans last month for use by medical and sports science students.

The university took the Titans name off the building but is set to lease the bottom floors to the club.

Brailsford said he was in talks with the Australian Rugby Union about a more substantial partnership.

"For the moment, it for this particular week and this particular tournament but don be surprised if we back again next year, he said.

ARU deputy chief executive Matt Carroll, who launched the Gold Coast Sevens at Bond last month, called the partnership between the ARU and the university a good fit.

"With the Gold Coast set to guild wars 2 gold host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, this partnership allows wow gold Bond University to build towards being a training site for the Qantas Australian men and women wow po (rugby) sevens teams and other competing nations, Carroll said.

"While this is a deal for the 2012 tournament, the ARU looks forward to working closely with guild wars 2 gold Bond to develop a stronger and broader partnership in the near future.

Brailsford said the purchase of the Centre of Excellence would pay dividends. "The advantage that we have now with the Centre of Excellence is that we essentially have a laboratory of high-performance athletes which we can work with, he said.

Brailsford said Bond University "long, proud and rich tradition in sports was flush with rugby connections, from one of the very first students, former Wallaby Jason Little, to his Test centre partner Tim Horan, a current Bond student.

"We have very strong connections with local rugby and the Queensland Reds, he said.

"We obviously have our wow gear own local club supported by the university and our sports tradition has reached out recently to the London Olympics where we had seven Bondies represented in the Australian team,
